I’m so lucky I didn’t grow up in the South
Or else I’d have to deal with nonsense like this:
Community members are rallying around Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School cheerleaders after they were banned from displaying signs with Bible verses urging fans and players to “commit to the Lord” and “take courage and do it.”
The banners — the paper ones that football players crash through at the beginning of games — have been common sights in the school’s football stadium since 2003, local officials say.
“The cheerleaders are not trying to push a religious cause, to shove religion down someone’s throat,” said local youth minister Brad Scott, who was LFO High’s class president in 2004. “The cheerleaders are just using Scripture to show motivation and inspiration to the players and the fans.”
Catoosa County Schools spokeswoman Marissa Brower said a Fort Oglethorpe resident lodged a verbal complaint to Superintendent Denia Reese last week, saying that the display of a Bible verse on the football field is a violation of federal law.A school system statement released Monday said the message constitutes “a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution for signs with Bible verses to be displayed on the football field.”
Mr. Scott said the ban prompted a rally tonight in support of the cheerleaders outside the Chick-fil-A restaurant on Battlefield Parkway so people can show their support for the cheerleaders and their signs.Y’all! Get in the truck! We’re headed down to the Chick-fil-A to support them Jesus-lovin cheerleaders!
HEY ASSHOLE.
we’re so lucky YOU didn’t grow up in the south. then we’d actually have to be nice to you. it’s something we try to exhibit - kindness. you know, one of them ole’ Jesus traits they teach us about in our bible-toys in the kids’ meals you can’t get on Sundays at Chick-Fil-A?
but now that you’ve mocked my homeland, my people, and my god, i still don’t feel towards you the provincial hate you obviously feel toward my neighbors. actually, you’ve got my pity instead. those god-fearin lessons you hate? sincerity? kindness? not being a complete tool? you obviously didn’t get those growing up. but as an ex-pat dixiecrat, decade-long new yorker, LIBERAL FEMINIST… let me just point out the one thing you’ve missed: ignorance clearly runs on both sides of the mason-dixon line. (you complete little shit of a yankee.)
Wow, what a convincingly level-headed, non-hypocritical, non-judgmental and wholesomely Christian response. I can feel the love. You are a role model for us all.
Please continue to support the insertion of your regionally predominant religious views into the secular public school system. Preserving your provincial sensibilities is much more important than preserving the freedom of all people to attend publicly funded institutions and activities without being preached at, propagandized to, or marginalized.
