The law had already been ruled unconstitutional after a 2nd judge decided it created a “substantial impairment of the right to vote.”
With a Wisconsin native on the GOP ticket, and a tight race ahead, every vote will matter in this important swing state.

The Resistance Begins: Rick Scott Announces Florida Won't Take Medicaid Money
Floridians will die so that he can be first in the wingnut line.
I don’t know the precise number, but in a state that size, surely a couple million people/families who’ll be eligible for care under the new law in 2014—families of four earning up to $88,000 are eligible for the subsidies—will be denied the chance to buy coverage at subsidized rates because Scott has refused this money. From a policy perspective, this is the next battleground, the pressure point of resistance for the hard-shell ideologues. How many states will really sacrifice billions in federal dollars for the sake of ideology, and how many will do it before the election so they get a gold star from Rove?
Those interested in what we used to call facts may want to read through this nice primer from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which describes the Medicaid transfer from the feds to the states and explains how the federal government will actually be picking up 93 percent of the costs over the next nine years.
I thought it would be Scott Walker, but Rick Scott doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve skipped right over anger and gone directly to sorrow. A lot of people are going to suffer for no good reason, because Rick Scott cares more about Tea Party ideology than actual human beings.
I’m afraid that since Florida beat him to this one, Walker, trying to GOP-ass-kiss his way to the White House, will have to be an even bigger showboating douchebag with his next move.
Canada Bracing for Massive Influx of Wisconsin Boat People
OTTAWA (The Borowitz Report) – The Canadian coast guard was on alert today, preparing for what it fears could be a massive invasion of boat people from Wisconsin.
Conor McGlindon, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Coast Guard (RCMCG), said that satellite photos had revealed a “substantial flotilla” in the making, as Wisconsinites prepared to flee their state for their neighbor to the North.
“Word has gotten around that we have policemen, firemen, and basic school lunches up here,” Mr. McGlindon said. “You can’t blame these boat people for seeking a better life. But we are under orders to intercept them.”
In Canada, officials fear that refugees from Wisconsin will brave the treacherous journey across Lake Superior in the hopes of giving birth to so-called “anchor babies” on Canadian soil.
Mr. McGlindon offered reporters a look at satellite photos showing the boat people larding their vessels with wheels of premium cheddar cheese, possibly in the hopes of bribing Canadian officials on Superior’s northern shore.
“We are telling all of our men that under no circumstances should they accept offerings of cheese,” he said. ”These boat people are desperate and they will try anything.”
Reports of the looming refugee crisis coincided with the release of a new poll showing that Gov. Scott Walker is now the most hated man in Wisconsin, narrowly edging Brett Favre.
Speaking at the state capitol, Gov. Walker seemed philosophical about his legacy: “I’m not worried how history will remember me, because if I have my way there won’t be any history teachers.”

And no, you shouldn’t judge by appearances, but I can’t help hoping that other polling places today look less like a Tea Party rally at a nursing home than mine did.

What I have come to understand over the past three years is that the hit job on unions in the public eye has been so deep, so strong, and so wrong that we have, as a society, come to demonize unions without really understanding what they do. How many of us were educated properly on labor organizing in the 20th century? I doubt many. It’s a topic that tends to come at the end of a long school year, receives short shrift, and never is studied in any depth, but what we know is that states which have gone with the right-to-work model are poorer, the jobs pay less, and employees have no job security whatsoever when compared to union states. Wisconsin is ground zero as far as whether unions thrive or barely survive. And if unions go, the oligarchs win.

PPP’s final poll on the Wisconsin recall finds Scott Walker ahead, but also a race that’s tightening. Walker leads Tom Barrett 50-47. That’s down from 50-45 on a PPP poll conducted three weeks ago and it’s also down from a 52-45 lead that Walker posted in a Marquette Law poll released last week.
Barrett is actually winning independent voters by a 48-46 margin. The reason he continues to trail overall is that Republicans are more excited about voting in Tuesday’s election than Democrats are. Our projected electorate voted for Barack Obama by only 7 points, even though he took the state by 14 in 2008. If the folks who turn out on Tuesday actually matched the 2008 electorate, Barrett would be ahead of Walker by a 50-49 margin. It’s cliche but this is a race that really is going to completely come down to turnout.
Walker has a 51/47 approval rating. He’s up with men (55-42), whites (52-46), seniors (58-39), and especially voters in the Milwaukee suburbs (70/29).
Barrett has a 46/46 favorability rating, improved from 43/46 on our first poll after the primary. He’s winning with women (52/46), minorities (58-36), young voters (53-39), those in Milwaukee County (61-35), and ones in greater Madison (59-37).
This is a close race, closer than it was a couple weeks ago. Scott Walker’s still the favorite but Barrett’s prospects for an upset look better than they have in a long time.

LAKEFRONT’S WISCONSINITE: FIRST 100 PERCENT LOCALLY GROWN AND BREWED BEER IN U.S.New Weiss beer features First North American yeast strain; release parties tonight
MILWAUKEE (May 10, 2012) – Lakefront Brewery, Inc. will today introduce Wisconsinite, a new unfiltered Weiss-style beer made entirely of local, Wisconsin-grown ingredients. It is believed to be the first 100 percent “all local” beer made in the U.S.
Wisconsinite will debut at several release parties tonight, including at Hooligan’s on Milwaukee’s East Side, Burnheart’s in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood, and The Village Pub in Shorewood. Product will begin appearing at retail outlets in the coming weeks.
The beer was created around a new native Wisconsin yeast strain envisioned by Lakefront President Russ Klisch and developed by Jeremy King of home brewing supplies distributor Northern Brewer. Their new strain is believed be to the only North American-grown yeast in commercial use today as well as the first native brewing yeast from Wisconsin. Yeast is just the tip of the local-sourcing iceberg, however. All products used in Wisconsinite hail from the state, including its water (Lake Michigan), malted barley (from Milwaukee’s Malteoup), wheat (Chilton) and hops (Mazomanie).
Wisconsinite is intended for summer drinking, with a light, cloudy body and a relatively low ABV of 4.2 percent. “The craft beer market is trending towards session beers with full flavors but lower alcohol content,” said Klisch. “Wisconsinite fits this category, given its (low) ABV and hints of banana and clove.”
Wisconsinite’s style and ingredients were chosen to complement the local yeast’s natural flavor. Its flavor is so distinct, in fact, that Klisch plans to forgo compensation to make it available to other brewers, hoping to create a new category of beer called Wisconsin Weiss.
“Yeast is the final frontier for craft brewers,” said Klisch. “It’s certainly what gives this beer such a distinct taste.” The Lakefront Strain yeast is available for purchase by commercial brewers through Wyeast, and by homebrewers through Northern Brewer. Lakefront will not receive any compensation for the sale of the yeast.
